Hampton, Virginia – – The Greater Peninsula Workforce Board and The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, working in partnership with the Greater Peninsula Region’s Six School Divisions, will host the eleventh annual Youth Career Expo on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. This regional award-winning event is designed to help the future members of our workforce make informed choices about life after high school.

Students, ages 16-19, will participate in mock interviews and panel discussions with local business leaders and human resource professionals. Participating students will also visit exhibits presented by businesses from various industry sectors. The students will gain exposure to the types of positions that are available as well as educational and training requirements needed to successfully compete for entry level career opportunities in these fields within the Greater Peninsula area.

This eleventh annual event welcomes back Newport News Shipbuilding as the presenting sponsor and participants can expect a spectacular technology display! BayPort Credit Union will conduct the Reality Fair and Financial Football workshop, 4-H will conduct the “Workplace Etiquette” workshop and Alternatives will conduct the “Communication? Let’s Talk About It” workshop.

The Youth Career Expo is expected to have over 1,500 high school students, 250 business professionals and members of the United States Armed Forces conducting mock interviews and serving as guides. In addition, over 60 exhibitors will be present representing the region’s major industry clusters, to include: Shipbuilding, Construction, Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing, Local Government Agencies, Information Technology, Public Safety, Hospitality, Entertainment, Restaurant/Retail, Real Estate, Military, Non-profit, Finance, Higher Education, and Service Organizations.
